Deuteronomy 13:1. "You shall not subtract from it" We are about to celebrate the giving of the Torah on Har Sinai-Judaism does not allow afire to be made on Shabbos (driving a car)and says that married couples canot have relations without the woman being purified through a mikva (How many conservatibe gathering places have mikvas?) The Rabbis have said for generations that there must be a mechitza to separate men and women during prayer, that gelatin and cheese must be from a kosher source, and that swordfish is not kosher.
The conservatives do not have any authority to judge on Torah law when they do not accept the Torah. We are about to celebrate the holiday of Shavuous and the giving of the Torah, when the Jewish people were at Mount Sinai "like one man with one heart", we cannot divide ourselves into groups, like conservative or reform, but must accept the whole Torah. On Shavuous, we eat dairy because the Jews realized their dishes were not kosher. If one feels that the food att Rubashkins was not kosher because of alleged workers conditions, one should kasher one's dishes and not take away Jewish people's livelihoods and try to further divide the Jewish people. We need to do tikun olam- Rubashkin by treating workers better (if they were treated unfairly) and the conservative movement by recognizing that the Torah was given by God and following its laws. Then we can all greet Moshiach with joy. A happy Shavuous.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5139028720804843546.post-66265540210539219452008-05-22T21:46:00.000-05:002008-05-22T21:46:00.000-05:00This is a fairly weak statement from a movement th...This is a fairly weak statement from a movement that seems concerned about ethics. What does "release an advisory to its members and constituents to evaluate the appropriateness of consuming Rubashkin products" mean? Could they be any more oblique on what they advise people to do? This statement implies that people might want to consider refraining from purchasing Rubashkin products, but the writers seem afraid to actually state that.

Will there be another advisory statement released with more actual advice? Will UCSJ and the RA actually send this out as a press release? Currently it is not on either website.

There are few things where I think organizational focus could come from our National movement organizations, but this is one of the issues and I hope USCJ and RA can be more direct that this statement in the near future.ddnoreply@blogger.com
